ARE YOU CREATING THE RIGHT FIRST IMPRESSION ON LINKEDIN?
In today’s social networking world, our first impression of someone will often be formed via the computer screen, rather than the traditional face to face meeting.
When we meet someone for the first time, a large proportion of that first impression is taken from the visual, i.e. what we can see?
Exactly the same thing happens on the screen. The first thing that the majority of people will focus on, is not what has been written in the text, but their interpretation of the photograph you have posted.
If you don’t have a picture on your linkedin page then you could potentially be missing a vital piece of information.
Here are my tips to create a good visual first impression on Linkedin with your photo:-
If you do have a picture posted, check to ensure it is sending the message out for which you want to be remembered by.
Linkedin is a very business orientated site, so make sure your picture depicts that environment. It is perfectly obvious which photographs have been culled from the holiday snaps!
Similarly look at the background of the photo, white is the best colour as it creates a good frame around you.
Consider getting a professional photo taken, especially if you are job searching.
Analyse what clothes are you wearing? Are they appropriate for the type of business, culture and sector that you operate in?
What colours do you have on? Are they your best colour, or do you look a bit washed out?
The photograph may seem a very small item on a very large screen, but it is one of the most powerful areas that a lot of people just overlook or post something quickly without thinking about the implications.
