Another busy week.....where is the year going? It only seems two shakes of a lambs tail since it was New Year!
Spent Monday evening with Ann Hawkins and her fantastic Inspirational Speakers (check out inspirationalspeakersblogspot.com for details of up and coming events). I did a small slot on personal presentation while Alan talked about the media and how to use them effectively.
Yesterday I ran a workshop on personal effectiveness and several of the delegates were interested in what messages the colours we wear mean (quite how we got onto this topic I'm not sure)!
A well know evening newspaper last week reported that if you are after a pay rise it might help if you wear a canary yellow shirt. Pink will encourage colleagues to treat you gently. It goes on to say that black, the staple wardrobe colour of a lot of people should be put in the bin.
What ever your favourite colour is, spring seems to be just around the corner so hopefully we will all be able to get out our summer clothes and ditch the warm ones that we have been cocooned in for the last few months.
Have a fantastic weekend one and all.

Motivation
Hello
Motivation seems to be the word of the last week.
It all started last Wednesday when I ran a 3 day Leadership & Development Course for a project team, on the afternoon of day 2 the programme focussed on the subject of motivation. Most of the afternoon is taken up with a really meaty exercise that is very participative and needs people to work in small teams to undertake some research.
Given the location we were using people needed to venture outside - however, the snow came and the snow came and the snow came. All motivation for the afternoon didn't seem to evaporate and all I wanted was the snow to evaporate (I had a very bad experience about 3 years ago when the M11 closed due to the snow and its still very fresh in my memory)!
I gave the group the option given the weather to make it an early day to ensure everyone got home safety. Yet despite one delegate needing to get back to Norfolk the group decided to work on and even agreed to come in early the next morning - true motivation!
This week quite out of the blue I've had a request to put a proposal together for a newly formed management team who want to focus on change management and how this will affect their teams motivation. So the M word has raised its head again.
This week I have a stash of work to do, but it involves me spending long periods of time in front of this little screen writing. Whilst I absolutely adore sitting and writing by the end of Tuesday afternoon I was starting to feel a bit switchy and by yesterday I was positively climbing the walls. You see part of my motivation is that I need to have people around me, and most importantly I need to have people I can talk to, chat to and yes even gossip to!
My Leadership & Development course delegates concluded that very different things will motivate different people and what works one day for one person might not be the same thing the next day.
So what motivates you? To pump up your motivation have a think about the answers to the following questions:-
What people inspire you and motivate you?
What places inspire and motivate you?
What books inspire and motivate you?
What music inspires and motivates you?
What other things have motivated you in the past?
And the final question is how can you tap into some of these things regularly or maybe when you feel your motivation is at a bit of a low ebb?
Me, I'm off now to have a chat to the man who is plastering my office walls for me - poor man!
Talk soon.
